How TS 2008 feature “Drain mode” helps XenApp Admins

In XenApp 5 server, if the logins are disabled, it does not allow even Administrators to connect using RDP (Interestingly it doesn’t allow VNC remote connections too). We have to use either iLO/DRAC consoles to remotely connect to the server but these method doesn’t provide much flexibility to work. There is an enhancement to this in XenApp 5 running on Windows server 2008.

Windows 2008 Terminal Server has a new feature called Drain mode. If the server is configured in Drain mode, it does not accept any new connections, but it will allow reconnection of disconnected sessions (users can save their work) and also allows Admins to connect to the console session (using “mstsc /admin” or “mstsc /console”).

Citrix PVS server: Enable debug logging

To enable debug logging on Citrix PVS server,

Open Citrix Provisioning services console
Select the PVS server object and go to properties
Select the last tab called logging and set logging level to Debug

By default log files are saved under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Citrix\ folder.
